The Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail

Yesterday Friday 6th March 2009  the Croagh patrick Heritage Trail was officially opened. It was a  special occasion for many who had striven to put this 55 kilometer hiking trail in place. I include some pictures in the Picture gallery that describe it better than words.

Next weekend 14th 15th 16th March 2009 there is a hiking festival planned around the trail. For me that will be the real launch.

Although I only contributed in a small way by de-registring folks at the end, I found this experience amazing and the energies and dedication the communities had put into making this walk a reality amazing. Naturally, help is needed, but ultimately it will be up to the communities and not some government agencies to make this walk sustainable and develop it further. Great to see how many individuals contributed in their own way to make this a success.
